I think I agree - a more flexible standard, which can have features added as and when needed.

In other words, the standard isn't for how the information is displayed, but for how the aggregator is told how to display the information. If that makes sense.

RSS isn't ideal, but stripped down XML certainly is. The answer is the creation of a unified standard for the display of such a feed. I think.

Actually I've been playing with Yahoo Pipes a bit today for another reason - a post is coming on that soon.

Yahoo Pipes is really for controlling the information which goes into feeds, and it has some sophisticated options for doing this based on various inputs. It can resort them and do lots of other interesting things.

However, I don't think it is the solution to this - the fundamental principle of RSS is to syndicate information which should be displayed in some sort of chronological order. Not all information we might want to syndicate fits that, and so that's why I think we might need a new technology.

I'm not sure that Yahoo Pipes can help with that. Again, I could be wrong though.

Hi there Huw,

I think you should have a look at Yahoo Pipes, which enables you to filter and sort as well as aggregate RSS feeds. With a bit of experimentation, I'm sure you could get all your feeds behaving the way you want them! Go to pipes.yahoo.com to check it out.
