Tubetorials launched by Huw

Tubetorial, a site providing video tutorials, launched today. Founded by Chris Pearson (whom I interviewed recently for PodDev), Brian Clark (of Copyblogger) and a friendly lawyer called Samantha. The tutorials are organised into series, each with RSS feeds and email subscription, with the initial three being:

  • Blogging Law 101 (Samantha)
  • 7 steps to creating and selling a niche information product (Brian Clark) , and
  • How to build a profitable home on the web (Chris Pearson)

They seem to be aimed at those with very little technical experience but who have heard of this whole ‘blog thing’, and want to know what it can do for them or their business. I think that’s a great market to aim for. As blogs become more and more mainstream, there will be ever increasing numbers of people who want a ‘serious’ (ie domain hosted etc) blog, but without the technical knowhow to make it happen. Thus Tubetorials is pitching to an expanding market, which is always a good idea for a business!

As for the quality of the videos themselves, they do contain the useful information in clear steps. Having written tutorials myself, I know how tempting it is to skip over the steps you know how to do yourself, in the process making your tutorial useless. Fortunately in this case this has not happened. At times the videos have a few too many ‘fun effects’, similar to PowerPoint presentations by someone who has just got into PowerPoint, but other than that I have very little criticism.

If you are likely to be interested in Tubetorials in the future, its worth subscribing now since Chris did talk in the interview I did with him that they would be looking to possibly charge non-subscribers for videos in the future. At the moment its all free, so if you do need to brush up on your Blogging Law knowledge, get watching!
