As I type, Digg has gone down. There’s no word on the official Digg blog, and all you get is Digg’s standard “we’re down” page. The question is – what are they doing? Is it reparis, bugfixes, new features or something else? It’s unlikely to be a massive overhaul, considering that Digg has only fairly recently launched version 3 of its design and features, but it could be some unannounced new cool feature.
With Digg having just launched Digg Labs, it could be distinctly possible that they’re rolling out a new Digg Labs feature that requires them to change some underlying Digg code or something.
Of course, it might also be boring and just that they’re doing some maintenance. We’ll see.
UPDATE: As Chris pointed out in a comment, it doesn’t appear that this downtime was anything big this time, but if it wasn’t, why did the entire of Digg need to come down? You’d think they’d switch to a different system temporarily rather than taking it all down. We can only guess…

How convenient. They appear to be back up though, nothing different that I can see except maybe a few style changes (I haven’t “dugg” deep into it though)
I posted a while ago about the same thing. I thought they were about to launch V3. Unfortunately it took another week!
I like their recommendations though.
I guess they’re doing architectural work which lays the ground for the new updates then. Presumably they do that now so when they do launch a major new version there’s no/little downtime (becuase people will be hitting the site lots if there’s buzz about a new version going around).
