BT have announced that they plan to upgrade the wholesale broadband service (the service that ISPs such as Tiscali and Freedom2Surf buy out and re-sell) to at least 4Mbps, up to 8Mbps in some areas.

This service provides the majority of broadband internet connectivity in the UK (aside from large cities where other infrastructure is more feasible and speeds can reach 25Mbps).
